JOB DESCRIPTIONÂ
POSITION: Financial Analyst
DEPARTMENT: FinanceÂ
DURATION: Permanent
REPORTING TO: Manager – Finance
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
The Financial Analyst monitors and analyses the organization’s investment portfolio returns and corporate risk metrics by collecting, monitoring, and studying data and recommending practical actions for implementation. He/she is responsible for ensuring that the organisation’s investment portfolio is maintained in accordance with the Investment Policy Statement. He/she must be highly analytical to assist with maintaining the financial health of the organization with respect to its short and long-term investment assets as it relates to liquidity management and return on assets. He/she must be familiar with Enterprise Risk Management and be able to collate and report on the relevant metrics and assist in the review of polices to guide same within the organization. He/she must be comfortable working with various financial and non-financial metrics, statistics, forecasting and other reporting tools.Â
The Financial Analyst reports to the Manager – Finance.Â

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
- Work collaboratively with the Manager – Finance to manage the investment portfolio in accordance with the Investment Policy Statement and Treasury Management Policy of the Credit Union.Â
- Monitors the Investment Portfolios of the organization on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and prepares the reports as per established guidelines.
- Reviews existing and proposed investments and makes sound recommendations to the Manager – Finance based on the relevant risk assessment.Â
- Maintains the Enterprise Risk dashboard for the organization and collaborates with Functional Heads as needed for reporting data (including feedback on action items) and submits draft report to the Manager – Finance for review and/or approval.Â
- Monitors the Enterprise Risk dashboard and alerts the Manager – Finance to factors, trends, etc., which may impact the organization positively or negatively.Â
- Effectively manages the relationship with the Credit Union’s brokers and fund managers, ensuring that the services received are in the organisation’s best interest and actively negotiates on matters including management fees and rates of return.Â
- Support all Auditing and Compliance activities. Works closely with the Manager – Finance to ensure that decisive actions are taken to correct audit findings.Â
- Assist Manager – Finance with the preparation of financial statement analysis for the Credit Union.Â
- Prepare ad hoc analyses to support strategic decision making by Senior Management.Â
- Responsible for updating and maintaining forecasting models, trend analysis and other tools used to monitor and guide the Credit Union’s investment decisions. Makes sound recommendations as per industry best practices for improved models etc.Â
- Identifies trends and recommends actions via strong analytical reporting whether proactively, as requested or as scheduled.Â
- Actively assists due diligence requirements are adhered to by the Credit Union and its service providers.Â
- Assists in the updating of Finance policies to ensure adherence to regulations and industry best practice.Â
- Actively promotes compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements including the AML/CFT programme and all relevant legislation.Â
- Works with the Investment Committee, attends meetings, prepares reports and provides information as may be required.Â
- Actively supports an environment of cooperation and performance.Â
- Takes necessary steps to stay current as a Risk Management / Analyst professional, ensures compliance with all professional and ethical standards of the profession and the organization.Â
- Assists with special projects/assignment and attends committee meetings and training as required.Â
- Performs other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned from time to time.Â
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance or Business Management with a Finance Major) and/orÂ
- Professional Finance / Accounting certification (e.g. ACCA, CFA, MSc IF).
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience preferably in a financial institution with at least two (2) of those years with direct experience analyzing liquidity and market risks.Â
- Experience in Enterprise Risk Management an asset.Â
- Prior forecasting and reporting experience an asset.Â
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Â
- Working knowledge of the financial legislation governing the industry, best practices etc.Â
SPECIALIZED SKILLS/TRAINING AND ATTRIBUTESÂ
- Solid working knowledge and experience in Risk analysis and/or Accounting and/or Investment Research Analysis.Â
- Comprehensive knowledge of a Credit Union (or Bank) operations, structures, risk management, internal controls, processes, products, and services will be an asset.Â
- Strong report writing, analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to provide recommendations to the Finance Manager.Â
- Detail oriented, meticulous and focused individual, with high performance standards and a penchant for accuracy.Â
- Must be a strong communicator – with the ability to interact with all stakeholders including but not limited to the Brokers, Manager – Finance, team members, Board Members.Â
- Must be able to maintain a cooperative work environment.Â
