Happy Independence Day!
Trinidad and Tobago gained its Independence from Great Britain on August 31st 1962. RHAND Credit Union Cooperative Society Limited would like to wish the nation a Happy Independence Day as we celebrate 49 years of hard work, patriotism, and dedication to development as a country. Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago can be truly proud as we reflect on our numerous achievements as a nation in the areas of Sport, Culture, Governance, Economic Growth and Sustainability, Development of our Human Capital, Infrastructure and Technological Growth to name a few. We must also reflect on the past struggles of those who pioneered our ability to gain Independence in 1962.
Today, Independence Day is celebrated with national parades both in Port of Spain and Scarborough Tobago; this is inspected by the President of the country in Trinidad and the leader of the Tobago House of Assembly in Tobago whilst members of the public gather to view the passing military –style parades. The presentation of the National Awards at President’s House takes place in the evening, which is then followed by fireworks displays at the Queens Park Savannah, San Fernando Hill and the Port Authority Compound Scarborough, Tobago. This year, in light of the limited state of emergency, the fireworks displays in Trinidad will not be conducted however; those in Tobago will continue as scheduled, the national parades in both islands will also be continued at their respective venues.
