CALYPSO COMPETITION
RHAND Credit Union hosted its Fourteenth (14th) Annual Calypso Competition on Friday 06th February 2009 at the car park of its Head office on Abercromby Street, Port of Spain.
The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Mr. Mark John, known in Calypso circles by the sobriquet, “Contender.” This was a nostalgic occasion for Contender, as he filled these same shoes as MC for RHAND’s very First Calypso Competition thirteen years ago. He performed double duties for the show as he also ably served as Guest Artiste for the show and rendered some of his compositions for 2009 which were very well received by an appreciative audience.
The offerings/fare from the contestants ranged from social commentary to humorous and the standard was as per usual very high, making it a challenge for the judges. However, at the end of the day the there can be only one winner, Mr. Roderick Gordon, “Chucky” singing, “Mud Glorious Mud” was adjudged to be that person.
